The SDGs as an accelerator for innovation investments

Workshop D

17:30 - 18:30

For tackling complex challenges like social welfare, climate change and public health, we must think and do things differently. Finding solutions to some of today’s most pressing problems requires actively working with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Thereby the SDGs can be used as an accelerator for enhancing organizations’ innovation capabilities.

Vinnova is Sweden’s innovation agency and its’ mission is to promote sustainable growth through innovation. With annual investments of approximately SEK 3 billion, Vinnova funds several thousand projects each year. In order to invest in projects that contribute to a more sustainable future, Vinnova uses the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a compass for its operations and as a criterium for making funding decisions.

During the session you will gain insights in how sustainability can enhance your organizations’ innovation capabilities. Vinnova will provide a short summary of Sweden’s progress in achieving the SDGs and share an analytical framework for evaluating sustainability in innovation projects.

You will also meet Marika Vitiä from Summa Equity, a thematic investment firm defined by a purpose-driven team that invests in companies addressing our global challenges and Life Science is one of their areas of investment. Hear our guest Marika explain how they measure the SDG goals as metrics to their portfolio companies and why it is so important for modern investors to take this responsibility.
